It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since the inception of ”Connections.” So much has changed both personally and professionally in the past year. Writing about this enjoyable puzzle game has had a significant impact on my life trajectory. Thanks to everyone who has engaged with the column, whether through emails or social media messages, especially when pointing out any mistakes I may have made.
Here’s to many more years of this and hopefully building a community around the game. If you’re interested in joining a Slack or Discord group to discuss “Connections,” feel free to reach out! Today’s NYT “Connections” hints and answers are on the way.
How To Play Connections
In “Connections,” you will encounter a grid of 16 phrases. Your task is to group them into four sets of four by identifying the connections between them. These groups could be related to various topics like movie franchises, verbs, or rappers.
Each puzzle has only one correct solution. Be cautious with words that could fit into multiple categories. You can rearrange the phrases to help find connections between them.
The groups are color-coded, with the yellow group typically being the easiest to solve, followed by the blue and green groups. The red group is usually the most challenging and often involves wordplay.
Select four words you believe go together and submit your answer. If you guess incorrectly, you will lose a life. Even if you’re close to a correct group, you’ll still need to determine which word to switch.
If you make four mistakes, the game ends. To prevent that, use hints provided and, if needed, refer to today’s “Connections” answers.

And if you’re curious, I’m on a streak of sharing Scotland national football team anthems before Euro 2024, with Gala’s “Freed From Desire” being the latest addition. It’s a song that always ignites the crowd when sung by my fellow Scots.
