The construction and transportation industries are experiencing a significant transformation with the introduction of an all-electric tipper truck by Tarmac. This innovative vehicle is set to revolutionize worksites worldwide by offering enhanced efficiency, sustainability, and power. Let’s delve into the unique features of this cutting-edge technology and its potential to reshape the construction and mining sectors.
Collaborating with London-based electric truck manufacturer Tevva and bodywork specialist Brit-Tipp, Tarmac embarked on the construction of the electric tipper truck in 2022 to provide environmentally friendly heavy goods vehicles. Brit-Tipp has gained approval for all bodies on the Tevva chassis, streamlining the vehicle registration process.
With an average daily mileage of 80 miles or 2,500 miles per month and a power consumption of 1.31kW/hour, the 7.5-tonne Tevva electric tipper is projected to save over 2.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions monthly compared to a diesel counterpart of the same size.
Tarmac has been an early adopter of the global EV100 initiative, pledging to transition its entire fleet to zero-emission vehicles by 2030. The introduction of the EV tipper truck is a significant step towards achieving this goal. In the previous year, Tarmac unveiled the UK’s first battery-powered concrete truck mixer and the world’s first electric bond-coat sprayer.
Jonathan Medforth, Tarmac’s national plant & transport manager, emphasized the importance of this project in advancing sustainability objectives and reducing the environmental impact of their operations, including transportation. The collaboration with Tevva marks a milestone in Tarmac’s journey towards a more sustainable future.
Kay Jarvis, Tevva’s industry operations director, expressed excitement over delivering the groundbreaking Tevva Tipper to Tarmac, marking a significant milestone in the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles. The partnership between Tarmac, Tevva, and Brit-Tipp lays the foundation for Tevva to become a leading brand in 7.5-tonne battery-electric tippers, ensuring a smooth transition to zero-emission technologies.
the introduction of the all-electric tipper truck by Tarmac signifies a major leap towards greener and more sustainable practices in the construction and transportation sectors. This collaboration between industry leaders showcases the potential for innovative technologies to drive positive change and shape the future of these industries.
