In a strategic move to reassure supporters and silence skeptics, President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign disclosed its June fundraising total earlier than expected, revealing a remarkable $127 million raised last month alongside the Democratic Party. The decision to unveil these numbers ahead of schedule was prompted by concerns about Biden’s debate performance, aiming to demonstrate his viability as a strong candidate amidst doubts about his mental acuity.
Surpassing expectations, Biden’s campaign revealed that it garnered $38 million in the four days following the debate with incumbent President Donald Trump. This surge in donations marked June as the most successful fundraising month for the Biden campaign, with a significant boost from a pre-debate fundraiser featuring prominent figures like Barack Obama, Julia Roberts, and George Clooney, which reportedly brought in nearly $30 million, as per The New York Times.
Noteworthy is the fact that over half of the funds raised in June originated from grassroots donors, with 95% of contributions amounting to less than $200. These statistics underscore the widespread support for Biden’s candidacy among ordinary Americans, emphasizing the grassroots nature of his fundraising efforts.
The June fundraising numbers contribute to Biden’s impressive second-quarter haul, totaling $264 million, with $240 million in cash reserves currently available to the campaign. In contrast, President Trump’s fundraising efforts yielded $114 million in June and $141 million in May, resulting in a second-quarter total of $331 million, with $284.9 million in cash on hand.
Amid swirling speculations about his candidacy, Biden and his campaign have reiterated their commitment to staying in the presidential race, dispelling any rumors of withdrawal. The substantial funds raised by the Biden campaign serve as a testament to his enduring support base and financial strength, positioning him as a formidable contender in the upcoming election.
